Singapore Citizenship in a nutshell

Singapore Citizenship is the highest form of national status granted to eligible individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the country, contributed significantly to its economy and society, and met the stringent criteria set by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for Singapore Citizenship, individuals generally need to fulfill the following criteria:

  • Permanent Residence (PR) Status: Applicants must hold PR status in Singapore for a specified period, typically between two to six years, before becoming eligible to apply for citizenship.
  • Employment and Contribution: Applicants should have a stable employment history, demonstrate good income tax records, and show a positive contribution to Singapore’s economy, society, or community.
  • Family Ties: Family members of Singaporean citizens may apply for citizenship based on family ties, provided they meet the necessary criteria and have resided in Singapore for a qualifying period.
  • Integration and Adaptation: Applicants are expected to integrate well into Singaporean society, adhere to local laws and customs, and demonstrate a commitment to embracing Singapore’s values and way of life.
  • Personal Background: Applicants must have a clean criminal record, be of good character, and fulfill the requirements for national service obligations (if applicable).
  • Economic Investment: Individuals who make significant economic contributions to Singapore, such as investors, entrepreneurs, or skilled professionals in key sectors, may have their citizenship applications considered favorably.

  • Age and Health: While there are no strict age limits, applicants are generally expected to be of working age and in good health to contribute positively to Singapore’s society and economy.
